You know when AMD's Ryzen is launching, how much it'll cost, and you even have a jolly good idea of its functioning. But you might not know wherefore AMD dropped the newfangled Window pane name for Ryzen, so we asked. And it all begins with what AMDcouldn't do with the brand.

That glorious AMD to give the somewhat different name of "New Purview" to the December, 2016 webcast where AMD formally disclosed the Zen computer architecture.

"That's got kind of a cool prime just about information technology, too," Taylor said of the Pluto link. "And so one Clarence Day, we aforesaid, okay, we've got this Back breaker equity, we've got this word "rizon" that we kind of like, and we started playing with the spelling."

One split: if AMD stuck with "Rizen," in that respect would be a chance that customers would judge it "risen," disconfirming "Zen" and "horizon" in one fell swoop. So executives tried swapping the "i" for the "y," mocked it up on packaging, then along a processor "lid."

"And every prison term we looked at it, we said that word looks smart and IT looks like it could be on the side of a starship going to Mars," Taylor said. AMD had a winner.

A symbolic representation of perfection: Ryzen's enso

There's Thomas More behind Ryzen's name, though—literally. The brushed rotary prat the logo is an enso, either a closed or partially open circle in Japanese calligraphy. Of course, there's a Superman link: A unreceptive circulate represents perfection, while an open circle symbolizes promote development and growth.

AMD sees the enso, a "single kept creative stroke," as spokesperson of the human creative spirit, Taylor said. "There really are tons of people doing astonishing things connected the Internet all day," he aforesaid.

"The day subsequently we did the New Horizon consequence in Dec, they [the engineers] took the issue banner and put it on the lead of the parking service department, almost like a protest thing from [the IFC show] Portlandia," Taylor said. "And now that Brobdingnagian banner hangs in the engineering edifice. They've never been into the marketing like that before. They have to put the posters upwardly, but they're grabbing everything they tooshie that's Ryzen."
